Why We Only Set Up Outdoors on Suitable Grass
For outdoor hires, Rugby Inflatables requires suitable natural grass or soil that allows the inflatable to be properly anchored.
This isn’t simply a preference. Secure anchorage is an essential part of inflatable safety, which is why we do not normally install our inflatables outdoors on concrete, tarmac, paving, driveways or artificial grass.
Secure Anchorage Is Essential
Outdoor inflatables must be securely restrained using their required anchorage points. Suitable natural ground allows us to use appropriate ground anchors and establish a secure setup before the inflatable is handed over for use.
Why Suitable Natural Ground Matters
🌱 Suitable for Ground Anchors
Suitable natural grass with soil underneath allows the required ground anchors to be installed securely.
🛡️ Reliable Restraint
Correct anchorage helps restrain the inflatable and forms an important part of the overall setup.
💨 Wind Forces
Wind can place significant forces on an inflatable, making appropriate anchorage and weather monitoring essential.
✓ Safety Before the Booking
If we cannot establish a setup that we consider suitable and safe, we will not install the inflatable.
Not Every Grass Area Is Automatically Suitable
Seeing grass in the garden doesn’t automatically mean an inflatable can be installed there.
We still need to consider the condition of the ground and the surrounding setup area.
✓ Ground condition
✓ Available operating space
✓ Required safety clearances
✓ Slope and uneven ground
✓ Access to the setup area
✓ Trees and overhead obstructions
✓ Known underground obstructions or services
✓ General surroundings and site conditions
Outdoor Surfaces We Don’t Normally Use
Our outdoor inflatables are intended for installation on suitable natural grass or soil. We therefore do not normally accept outdoor setups on:
✕ Concrete
✕ Tarmac
✕ Block paving
✕ Patios
✕ Driveways
✕ Gravel
✕ Decking
✕ Artificial grass
Why Not Artificial Grass?
Artificial grass can look similar to natural grass from above, but what sits underneath it can vary considerably.
There may be compacted material, membranes, drainage systems, concrete or other layers beneath the surface. Ground anchors could also damage the artificial grass or its underlying installation.
For those reasons, we do not normally install outdoor inflatables on artificial grass.
Why Can’t You Just Use Sandbags Outdoors?
Weighted anchorage may be used by us for appropriate indoor installations where the setup has been assessed and the equipment can be secured correctly.
Our normal outdoor setup method requires suitable natural ground for ground anchorage. We do not simply substitute our outdoor ground anchors with a few sandbags to make an otherwise unsuitable garden booking possible.
What Makes a Suitable Outdoor Setup Area?
✓ Natural grass with suitable soil underneath
✓ Sufficient space for the selected inflatable
✓ Required safety clearance around the equipment
✓ Reasonably level and suitable ground
✓ Clear access to the setup location
✓ Suitable electrical supply within the permitted distance
✓ No unsuitable overhead obstructions
✓ Suitable surrounding conditions

Final Suitability Is Confirmed at Setup
Measurements, photographs and information supplied before the hire help us identify potential problems and recommend suitable equipment.
However, the final decision on whether an inflatable can be installed remains subject to the actual conditions we find when we arrive. If the location cannot be used safely or the equipment cannot be appropriately secured, we will not complete the setup.
No Suitable Grass? Consider an Indoor Venue
If your garden doesn’t have a suitable natural grass area, an indoor venue could be a good alternative.
We regularly provide inflatables for village halls and community venues, subject to the available floor space, ceiling height, access arrangements and venue permission.

Outdoor Setup FAQs
Can you set up on my driveway for only a few hours?
No. The duration of the hire does not remove the need for appropriate anchorage. Our outdoor hires require suitable natural ground.
What if my driveway or patio is very sheltered?
A sheltered position does not remove the need to secure the inflatable correctly, so we would still require a suitable outdoor setup surface.
Can you stake through my artificial grass?
We do not normally install on artificial grass because the construction beneath it may be unsuitable or unknown and ground anchors could damage the installation.
Can part of the inflatable sit on paving?
The inflatable and the space required for its safe installation and anchorage must fit within the suitable setup area. Contact us if your grass area is close to the minimum required size.
What if the ground is very wet?
Grass being present does not automatically make the ground suitable. Ground conditions are considered as part of our setup assessment.
Can I send you a photograph before booking?
Yes. If you are unsure, send us clear photographs together with the approximate dimensions of the proposed setup area and we can provide guidance before you book.
