At Rugby Inflatables, the safe installation and operation of our equipment is at the heart of every hire.
From equipment inspection and site assessment through to anchoring, operating-pressure checks, weather monitoring and customer handover, we follow structured procedures designed to help provide a safe and enjoyable inflatable hire.
Safety Is More Than a Checklist
Providing inflatable equipment safely involves much more than simply delivering a bouncy castle and switching on a blower.
Every hire involves consideration of the equipment, installation location, available space, surface, anchoring, electrical supply, operating pressure and surrounding hazards.
For outdoor hires, weather conditions must also be considered before installation and monitored throughout the period of use.
Rugby Inflatables maintains controlled risk assessments, safe operating procedures, emergency guidance and supporting compliance documentation as part of our approach to managing inflatable safety.
Equipment Standards & Inspection

Inflatable Equipment
Our hire inflatables are PIPA tested and maintained as part of our equipment-management procedures.
- Inflatable equipment subject to appropriate inspection and testing
- Operation in accordance with applicable BS EN 14960 requirements
- Visual and functional checks during setup
- Equipment checked again during collection
- Identified defects recorded
- Equipment removed from service where a defect could affect safe operation

Blowers, leads and associated electrical equipment form part of our inspection and testing arrangements.
- PAT-tested electrical equipment
- Visual condition checks before use
- Suitable RCD protection used as part of the setup

- Cables positioned with safety in mind
- Defective electrical equipment removed from service
What Happens When We Set Up?
Every location is different. Our written procedures are therefore supported by checks carried out at the actual hire location before an inflatable is handed over for use.

Assess
We assess the proposed location, surface, available operating space, access and surrounding hazards.

Install
The inflatable is positioned, inflated and secured using the appropriate installation and anchoring arrangements.

Check
Anchorage, blower, electrical equipment, safety mats and operating pressure are checked before use.

Handover
Important operating, supervision, weather-monitoring and emergency information is explained to the responsible adult.
Operating Pressure Is Checked
Correct inflation is an important part of safe inflatable operation.
As part of our setup procedure, an operator-trained member of staff uses a manometer to check the inflatable's operating pressure.
The inflatable will not be handed over for use where the required operating condition cannot be achieved.
Anchoring & Surface Safety
Correct anchoring is fundamental to inflatable safety. An inflatable must be capable of being securely anchored using an appropriate method for the installation environment.

Outdoor Hires
Our outdoor inflatable hires require a suitable natural grass or soil surface that allows the inflatable to be correctly secured using appropriate ground anchors.
We do not install our outdoor inflatables on concrete, tarmac, artificial grass or other hard surfaces where our normal ground-anchoring method cannot be used.
The ground must also be reasonably level, clear and suitable for the equipment being installed.

Indoor Hires
Indoor installations are assessed for available floor space, ceiling height, access, surrounding hazards and suitable positioning.
The inflatable is secured using the appropriate indoor anchoring or ballast arrangement for the equipment and installation environment.
There must also be sufficient clearance from walls, ceilings, lighting, fixtures and other equipment.

Weather Safety
Weather conditions are an important part of every outdoor inflatable hire. Conditions are considered before installation and must continue to be monitored throughout use.
🌬️ 24 mph Is the Maximum – Not a Target
The maximum wind speed for outdoor inflatable operation is 38 km/h (24 mph), including gusts, unless the manufacturer specifies a lower maximum operating limit.
Use must stop before that limit where gusting winds, heavy rain, deteriorating ground conditions or any other circumstances make continued operation unsafe.

Wind Monitoring
- Weather conditions considered before outdoor setup
- Anemometer supplied with outdoor hires
- Wind-monitoring guidance provided
- Wind checks should be carried out and recorded during the hire
- Conditions must continue to be monitored throughout use
- Gust speeds must be considered, not only average wind speed
- Use must stop when the applicable limit is reached or conditions otherwise become unsafe

Rain & Severe Weather
- Wet inflatable surfaces may become slippery
- Heavy rain may require inflatable use to stop
- Electrical equipment must remain suitably protected
- Thunderstorms and severe weather require use to stop and conditions to be reassessed
- Ground deterioration, standing water or flooding may make continued operation unsafe
Hot Weather & Extreme Heat
Inflatable surfaces can become hot when exposed to strong direct sunlight, while active play can increase the risk of dehydration and heat-related illness.

Surface Temperature
Inflatable surfaces should be monitored during hot conditions. Use should be paused where surfaces become excessively hot or uncomfortable for users.

User Welfare
Regular hydration, rest breaks, shaded rest areas and active adult supervision can help reduce heat-related risks during hot weather.
Rugby Inflatables may refuse, pause or cancel an outdoor hire where extreme heat or other weather conditions cannot be safely managed.
Supervision & Safe Use
Once a standard unattended hire has been safely installed and handed over, a responsible adult aged 18 or over must actively supervise the inflatable throughout use.
At handover, the responsible adult is provided with the relevant operating and safety information for the hire. Once our team has left the site, the responsible adult must continue to supervise use, carry out any required monitoring and respond if users, equipment, weather or site conditions become unsafe.

- Monitor the number of users
- Prevent overcrowding
- Separate significantly different-size users where appropriate
- Prevent unsafe or excessively rough behaviour
- Intervene immediately when unsafe behaviour occurs
- Monitor equipment and changing site conditions
- Monitor weather during outdoor hires

Safe Play Rules
- No shoes
- No food, drinks or chewing gum
- No sharp or loose objects
- No rough play
- No flips or somersaults
- No climbing on walls or safety netting
- No face paint on our inflatable equipment
⚠️ If Something Doesn't Look Right – Stop Use
If an inflatable begins to lose pressure, the blower stops, electrical power is interrupted, equipment moves unexpectedly, weather becomes unsafe or a defect is suspected, all users must be removed from the inflatable and use stopped immediately.
The responsible adult should prevent anyone from re-entering the inflatable until it is safe to do so.
Customers must not attempt to move the inflatable, change or remove anchorage points, interfere with electrical equipment or carry out repairs themselves.

Our safety arrangements continue after equipment leaves your event.

Equipment is checked during setup and again during collection. Identified defects are recorded and equipment is removed from service where necessary.

Inflatables are cleaned, dried where required and stored appropriately between hires as part of our equipment-care arrangements.
