Behind the Scenes • Rugby Inflatables
What Goes Into Setting Up a Bouncy Castle Safely?
There's a little more to setting up a bouncy castle than simply
rolling it out and switching on the blower. Here's a look behind
the scenes at some of the checks we complete before your hire begins.
🛡️ Safety Starts Before We Arrive
A safe inflatable hire starts well before we arrive at your home,
hall or event.
Rugby Inflatables maintains records for our inflatables and associated
equipment, including the inspections and testing required to keep
everything ready for hire.
Our inflatables are PIPA tested, our electrical
equipment is PAT tested, and our setup procedures
are designed around the requirements for professionally operating
inflatable play equipment.
Did you know? Each inflatable has its own
identification, allowing the equipment being used for a hire
to be recorded as part of our setup process.
📍 Checking the Setup Area
Before an inflatable is unpacked, we first look at where it is going
to be positioned.
The area needs to provide enough room for the inflatable itself as
well as the required operating space around it.
We also check that the setup area is suitable, level and clear of
debris, sharp objects or anything else that could damage the inflatable
or create an unnecessary hazard.
For outdoor garden hires, our inflatables are set up on
natural grass or suitable soil where they can be
correctly anchored into the ground.
⚓ Anchoring the Inflatable
Correct anchoring is one of the most important parts of an inflatable
setup.
Outdoors, suitable ground stakes are used at the required anchorage
points. Indoors, where stakes cannot be used, appropriate weighted
anchoring is used instead.
The inflatable is checked to make sure it is stable and correctly
positioned before we continue with the rest of the setup.
💨 Blower & Pressure Checks
Once the inflatable is positioned and anchored, the blower is
securely connected and the inflatable is fully inflated.
But we don't judge whether an inflatable is correctly inflated
simply by looking at it.
We use a manometer to take a pressure reading and
record it as part of our setup checks. This helps confirm that the
inflatable is operating at the appropriate pressure.
We also identify and record the blower being used with the inflatable
so that the equipment used for the setup can be traced.
⚡ Electrical Safety
The blower needs a continuous electrical supply while the inflatable
is in use, so electrical equipment forms another important part of
our checks.
We visually inspect the equipment being used and use appropriate
electrical protection, including RCD protection.
Our electrical equipment is also maintained and
PAT tested.
🌬️ Outdoor Hires & Wind
Weather is one of the biggest considerations when operating an
inflatable outdoors.
We take and record the wind speed during setup using an
anemometer. Customers are also provided with guidance
on monitoring conditions throughout their hire.
Inflatables must not be operated in unsafe wind conditions.
Our maximum operating wind speed is 24mph, and a hire
may need to be cancelled or stopped if conditions become unsafe.
Weather decisions aren't made simply on whether it's sunny or
raining. Wind speed, heavy rain and other unsuitable conditions
can all affect whether an outdoor inflatable can be operated safely.
📋 Our Setup Checks
Before we finish setting up, a number of checks and recordings are
completed for the hire.
Setup Area
Checking the area is suitable, stable and clear of potential
hazards.
Anchoring
Confirming the inflatable has been suitably anchored for its
location.
Inflatable Condition
A visual check of the inflatable before it is handed over
for use.
Blower
Checking the blower is securely attached and recording its
identification.
Pressure
Taking and recording an inflatable pressure reading using
a manometer.
Wind
For outdoor hires, recording the wind speed at setup using
an anemometer.
👨👩👧👦 Then It's Over to You
Once we're happy with the installation, we'll provide the hirer with
the relevant safety information for using and supervising the
inflatable during the hire.
Children should be appropriately supervised while the inflatable
is in use, and the operating guidance provided at setup should be
followed throughout the hire.
These checks may only take up a small part of your party day, but
they're an important part of the service we provide.
💙 More Than Just Delivering a Bouncy Castle
When you book with Rugby Inflatables, you're not simply paying for
an inflatable to arrive at your door.
Your hire includes the preparation, delivery, professional setup,
equipment checks, safety procedures and collection that happen
around your booking.
Much of that work happens behind the scenes, but it helps us provide
a professional and reliable inflatable hire service for families,
venues and events across Rugby and the surrounding area.
