Wind Guidance for Safe Inflatable Use

At Rugby Inflatables, safety is our top priority. We strictly follow the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) guidelines to ensure all inflatable equipment is operated safely at your event.

Important Wind Speed Safety Information:

  • No inflatable should be used in winds exceeding 24 mph (38 km/h), equivalent to Force 5 on the Beaufort Scale(when small trees in leaf begin to sway).

  • Some inflatables may have a lower maximum operating wind speed. Always refer to the specific manufacturer’s operating manual for correct guidelines.

  • When using inflatables outdoors, it is mandatory to regularly measure the wind speed with a reliable anemometer.

  • If an anemometer is not available, the inflatable must not be operated outdoors.

  • Wind speed measurements must be recorded during the hire period to ensure continued safe use.

Our Commitment to Your Safety:

For every outdoor inflatable hire, Rugby Inflatables provides:

  • A detailed Wind Guidance Sheet (see below).

  • A anemometer to monitor wind conditions throughout your event.

Your safety is in good hands with Rugby Inflatables. We work hard to ensure your inflatable hire experience is safe, enjoyable, and fully compliant with HSE regulations.

If you have any questions regarding our Wind Guidance Policy or need further advice, please don't hesitate toContact Us.

- We have provided you with a wind speed measurement device (an Anemometer)
for the purpose of safeguarding against inflatable use in high winds.

- The maximum wind speed at which an inflatable can be used is
38 KM/H (24 MPH) (Force 5 on the Beaufort Scale
(small trees in leaf begin to sway).

- You have been provided with a simple demonstration that comprehensively
covers the use and operation of the anemometer.

- You understand it is your responsibility to be aware of the changing wind
conditions and record the wind speed near the inflatable/ride location.
Should the recorded winds reach 38 KM/H you MUST quickly and safely
evacuate the users and turn off the inflatable/ ride.

- Following the demonstration, the first recording has been made for you by
the Rugby inflatables staff.

- Using the instructions demonstrated to operate the anemometer,
wind speed recordings are required to be completed every 30 minutes
(or more frequently if there is any indication of wind speed increasing)
by competent persons (aged 18+) supervising the use of an inflatable
device.

- Indications that wind speed is increasing could be (but are not limited to):
wind is raising dust or loose paper, small branches are moved, small
trees in leaf begin to sway and crested wavelets form on inland waters.

- The inflatable/ride should not be turned on until wind speeds have been
consecutively and consistently recorded at less than 38 KM/P for
30 minutes, taken at 5-minute intervals for the duration.

- If at any time any recorded wind speed is higher than 30 KM/H then recordings
must increase in frequency to every 5 minutes for 30 minutes. This frequency
may only return to every 30 minutes when there have been recordings
consistently below 26 KM/P for the entire 30-minute period and each
recording is below 26 KM/H.

- If at any time you are unable to take wind recording for any reason, the
inflatable/ride must cease with the inflatable being powered off after all
users have been evacuated quickly and safely.

- If at any time the Anemometer ceases to function, please contact us
immediately for advice.

- This sheet is to be used for recording the wind speed at previously
stated intervals of frequency. The time of each recording must
also be noted.

- You understand it is your responsibility to carry out and record these wind
recordings at regular intervals and carry out the safe and quick evacuation,
should the wind conditions approach or reach 38 KM/H
(Force 5 on the Beaufort Scale).
