An inflatable must never be used above its stated maximum wind speed. Some equipment may have a lower operating limit, so the instructions supplied with your particular inflatable must always be followed.
Safe Wind-Speed Limits for Inflatables
Wind conditions can change quickly and may be affected by nearby buildings, trees, fences and other structures. Wind speed must be measured locally at the inflatable rather than relying only on a weather forecast or mobile application.

Important:

Your Responsibilities During the Hire
Once the inflatable has been handed over, a responsible adult aged 18 or over must supervise the equipment and monitor the weather throughout the hire.
✓ Check and record the wind speed at least every 30 minutes
✓ Take additional readings whenever conditions change or become gusty
✓ Ensure monitoring is completed by a responsible adult aged 18 or over
✓ Keep the anemometer and recording sheet available throughout the event
✓ Ensure the inflatable remains properly supervised
✓ Stop use immediately if conditions become unsafe
How Often Should Wind Speed Be Checked?
Wind speed should normally be checked and recorded every 30 minutes. The frequency must increase if conditions begin to change.

Below 26 km/h
Continue recording readings every 30 minutes, provided conditions remain stable.
Above 30 km/h
Increase monitoring to every five minutes for at least 30 minutes.

Changing or Gusty Conditions
Take immediate additional readings and continue monitoring more frequently.
38 km/h or 24 mph
Evacuate the inflatable immediately and switch it off safely.

Monitoring may return to 30-minute intervals only when readings have remained consistently below 26 km/h for the full 30-minute monitoring period.
Signs That Wind Speed May Be Increasing
Visual signs can indicate that conditions are changing, but they must never replace an actual anemometer reading.

✓ Small branches beginning to move
✓ Trees in leaf beginning to sway

✓ Flags moving more forcefully
✓ Sudden gusts around nearby buildings
✓ Noticeable movement of the inflatable structure

Do not wait for obvious visual signs.
Wind speed must still be measured and recorded using the supplied anemometer.
When to Stop Using the Inflatable
Stop use immediately, remove all users and switch off the inflatable safely if:
⚠ Wind speeds approach or exceed the permitted operating limit
⚠ Conditions become gusty, unpredictable or noticeably stronger
⚠ You cannot continue measuring or recording the wind speed
⚠ The supplied anemometer becomes damaged or stops working
⚠ The inflatable appears unstable, moves excessively or develops a fault
⚠ Rugby Inflatables instructs you to stop using the equipment
Never delay stopping use to complete a game, photograph, party activity or event programme. Safety must always come first.
Unable to Measure the Wind Speed?
If you cannot take a reliable wind-speed reading for any reason, the outdoor inflatable must not continue to be used.
Remove all users, switch the inflatable off safely and contact Rugby Inflatables for advice.

Weather forecasts are useful when planning an event, but they cannot replace live measurements taken at the inflatable.
Rugby Inflatables may cancel, postpone, delay or stop an outdoor hire when wind, heavy rain, storms or other conditions make operation unsafe.
